I earned my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Nyack College Alliance Graduate School of Counseling in NY. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate and a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist Associate in North Carolina. Additionally, I am a Certified Family Trauma Professional.
My areas of expertise include working with families, couples, children, single-parents and individuals struggling with mood disorders, childhood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, substance-related disorders, and marital and relationship issues. My work includes working with families and couples in conflict, survivors of trauma, abuse, and clients with substance use disorders or in recovery from alcohol and drugs.
My approach to therapy is called family systems therapy. This is a philosophy of psychotherapy that helps people resolve their problems in the context of issues within or arising from their nuclear and/or family of origin. It also looks at family structures, family interactional patterns, emotional attachment and problems that may arise out of interactions with family, significant others, and those within the client’s system or sphere of influence. It is also useful in working through challenges in organizations.
As a graduate school instructor, I utilize creative, experiential approaches to help students learn and grow their understanding of marriage and family theories, techniques and interventions.
I have presented a variety of mental health topics to groups including a Fortune 500 company in the Triangle area, and am available to speak to your company, organization or church on a variety of relationship and mental health topics.
As a native New Yorker, my life has been enriched by community outreach as a volunteer connecting clients to essential resources such as detox, shelters, and food pantry sources and providing ministry resources to disadvantaged populations struggling with homelessness, addiction and poverty in the NY Metro Area. Since moving to North Carolina, I am continuing this journey as a volunteer providing disaster mental health services in the Triangle.
My journey to becoming a therapist is derived from multiple roads leading to my passion to help others. During my 15 years as a part-time wedding planner, I had a life-changing thought and question --“Wedding planning is a key component to experiencing a wonderful, memorable event so why not proactively help couples and families plan and prepare to experience a fulfilling, healthy marriage and life”?
